Unit One: Truth-Seekers
Welcome to English 11, all! We are off to a great start, I hope, with discussion on ideas of good vs. evil, that age-old theme destined to thwart our desires to plumb its depths. Okay, enough waxing poetic! We have started with a look at Plato's "Allegory of the Cave" and the myth of the "Ring of Gyges". Why do good people do bad things? Why do some people (not us!) prefer to stay chained in their "caves" instead of seeking enlightenment? These are just two of many questions we will delve into in this exciting Truth-seekers unit.
Friday p.m. we watched "Hotel Rwanda". Please research the Hutu-Tutsi conflict and write a synopsis of the movie. Be prepared for discussion Monday!
