If anyone is following this blog, this is a new post for the class of January 2010. You are not required to write an exam; however, you will have a final poetry/Shakespeare exam on January 21st.

The Importance of Being Earnest is a lot of fun! Be prepared to write a small test on the humour in the play.

Don't forget to hand in your short stories...and of course, your research papers!

NO FINAL EXAM!

We wrote some beautiful poems today in the sunshine...a propos for the subject: the "sublime" in nature. Slocan Valley residents will relate to the beauties of Nature, I am sure, since we live in a spectacular part of the world. We took Billy Collins' idea to use an image as a point of entry into writing a poem. The results were delectable, luscious, scrumptious...okay, I am just having fun with words.
Projects: Take a short story/newspaper article/essay and relate it to a poem of your choice. See handout for details.

Don't forget report cards come out next Friday. Everything should be in by now!

As we approach the end of Term One, you will hopefully have all of your assignments submitted. Make sure you have the following in your folder: Lord of the Flies quizzes, short story, Macbeth synopses, movie response, creative project rubric with mark, "Paid-up Member" response, three free-writes.
